Last night was one of those nights that will forever be seared into memory...

This Leather Cuff Bracelet was created after learning my Nail Technician's Cousin committed Suicide... She learned about it while working on my nails.

Hearing this woman's story, witnessing the grief of her family and friends who came by that night was something I'll never forget...

The passing of this person, whom I had never met, touched me so deeply, this saying kept coming to mind last night, and all through today...

If she had only heard the Music of Love her Life meant to my technician and her friends and family that gathered that night as I sat there having my nails done...

I am currently researching which is the best place to donate a portion of sales in our local area to help with counseling efforts.

The chart shows the color equivalents between TOHO® Aiko and Miyuki® Delicas. Please be aware that the colors are not always identical and this chart represent the closest match available. The size and shape of Toho and Miyuki beads are very similar and you can ‘mix & match’ the two brands in your beadwork.

Czech Glass Bead Finishes

Czech Glass Bead Finishes

Czech Glass Bead Finishes and Coatings - Finishes Defined Czech Glass Beads Aurora Borealis (AB) - 1/2 coat metallic finish that adds a prismatic effect to the surface of the bead. Sometimes referred to as an Iridescent or Rainbow coating. This finish is often applied to one side of fire polished beads whiles the fire-polished bead is hot. This creates a rainbow or prism effect on the bead surface. The beads are placed in an oven where a chemical reaction between metals produces fumes that adhere to the exposed surfaces of the bead. Usually this coating is only applied to one side of the bead; however there are some shapes,that can easily be coated on both sides for a more dramatic effect. Marea - Metallic Finish - Same process as AB but results in a primarily orange/yellow reflection. Vitral - Metallic Finish - Same process as AB but results in a primarily pink/green reflection. Matte - Tumbled to create a subdued look. Transforms the beads from transparent to translucent. The surface texture of a bead depends on the length of time it is tumbled. Instead of being tumble polished to a bright shine, the matte finish creates a soft appearance or glow to the bead. Throughout the tumbling process the surface alternates from being matted to polished and it is up to the manufacturing experts to calculate the perfect tumbling time. The matted effect can also be created by dipping the beads into an acid solution. This is the preferred method when creating matte AB finishes or working with delicate beads such as lampwork. Matte AB - A combination of the above coatings. The beads are first coated with an AB finish and then dipped into an acid solution to take away the shine. This combination brings out the prismatic color refraction of the AB finish and the rough texture of the matted bead creates a mesmerizing glow and an unbelievable depth to the bead. Luster - Sometimes referred to as Lustre. This is an incredibly popular bead coating. Durable, transparent, glossy color coating on glass beads that is heat treated like a glaze. These coatings are usually applied to a crystal or jet based bead; however there are limitless combinations that are becoming increasingly popular. On light beads a luster coating may add only a subtle hint of color, whereas dark beads may have the complete opposite effect. Some examples include: Vega  - Siam Ruby based bead with a luster transparent amethyst coating Hematite - Jet based bead with a clear luster coating Picasso - A luster coating that appears more speckled and spotty; giving the bead a natural, earthy appearance. The color can vary from light yellow to dark brown with underlying color variations. Some base bead colors, such as opaque beige, blue or white allow the picasso finish to take on a raku pottery look.

Recently Received a Really Good Question I thought I'd pass along to our Fans...

Question: What's the difference between Basemetal & Pewter?

Answer: In the jewelry industry, basemetal usually refers to any metal that's not a precious metal (such as bullion Gold, Silver, Platinum, Rhodium).

Examples of basemetals : nickle silver, tin, brass, AND PEWTER ("Tibetan Silver")!

So, pewter is a basemetal, but not all base-metals are pewter.

Silver Turned Black... Means I'm Sick/Dying, Right?

We received an eMail recently : "My silver pendant and chain turned black & I read that means I'm sick and dying, right?"...

Well, have to legally state 1st that if you believe you're sick, please see a Doctor...

Sterling silver is actually a very complex substance.

What's more-than-likely happened is that you've recently worn your silver while swimming in a chlorinated pool, soaking in a hot-tub, or you ate some sulfur-rich foods recently (such as onions or garlic) and your body is excreting the sulfur.

Chlorine and/or bleach will instantly turn silver dark - why it's always advised not to wear your silver jewelry when taking a swim or relaxing in a hot-tub. Also be sure to thoroughly rinse yourself before putting your jewelry back on after your dip. Though not now used widely, these chemicals are used by some smiths to 'patina' a silver piece darker.

Silver is highly reactive to your body's secretion of salts, sulfides and chemicals (through sweat)... or sulphides in the air.

If you or a friend has ever worked with silver, PMC or other metals, you may have heard of a substance called : LIVER OF SULFUR ... it's comprised of sulfur compounds that turns metals different colors -- it contains sulfides (just like garlic and onions). If you leave liver of sulfur on too long, it will turn the metal completely black.

Here's a list of things that Silver has a bad reaction with: Wool, Rubber Bands, Latex Gloves, Oils from your Hands and Fingers, Ammonia, Chlorinated Water, Carpet Padding, Air Pollution, Perfumes, Hair Sprays. Here are some foods that can make Silver tarnish : Garlic, Onions , Mayonnaise, Salad Dressing, Eggs and Salty Foods.

To Clean :
A few Non-professional methods -- there are actually quite a few that can be found throughout web-land - These are recommended for Solid Sterling Silver Items (other methods should be used if you piece is a combination of gemstone & sterling):

1 - In a plastic flat-bottom, shallow container, lay a piece of aluminum foil in the bottom. Add to dish 1 tablespoon of baking soda along with tarnished silver item. Bring water to almost boiling, and pour water over to just cover the silver item(s). The silver will turn nice and shiny by the time the water cools. Rinse & pat dry. Please Note: the silver has to be in contact with the aluminum.

2 - Use plain tooth-paste. Mix it in a small container with enough water for it to be a thin paste, almost a gravy-like. Let the silver soak in it overnight. Then scrub it with an soft, old toothbrush.


3 - Use a mix of baking soda and some water. Mix in a small container with enough water for it to be a thin paste. Scrub it with an soft, old toothbrush.
