March is Blue Month

More people claim blue as their favorite color than any other color (over 50%). Colors contain myriad symbolic associations. Blue, for instance, reminds you of the sky; green suggests foliage, grass, and healthy crops; whereas orange is the color of fire and the sun. Among Druids, Blue was a sacred color that denoted someone who had achieved the rank of Bard. In Western color symbolism Blue is associated with royalty, peace and compassion -- the Virgin Mary is often depicted wearing blue. Dark blue was the Byzantine color of an empress, lending to the Virgin Mary's early association with the color as 'Queen of Heaven'. The ancient Egyptians used lapis lazuli to represent heaven. In systems which correlate favorite colors with color symbolism, people who wear light blue are said to be analytical and have a practical approach to life. People who wear dark blue are intelligent and self-reliant and take on a great deal of responsibility. These words are synonymous with blue or represent various shades of the color blue: aquamarine, turquoise, azure, baby blue, beryl, cerulean, cobalt, cornflower blue, corporate blue, cyan, indigo, midnight blue, navy, Prussian blue, robin's egg blue, royal, sapphire, sky blue, slate, aqua, steel blue.
